World Consumer Rights Day

World Consumer Rights Day

International Consumer Rights Day, which takes place on March 15th each year, was established by the International Consumers Union in 1983. Cooperation and exchanges with regional consumer organizations to better protect consumer rights internationally.

Purpose of establishment

Choosing such a day as the "International Consumer Rights Day" is also to expand publicity, promote cooperation and exchanges between consumer organizations in various countries, attract international attention, and promote consumer protection activities.

As Rhodafang Parkin, President of the International Consumers Federation, said: "The communication of people, the exchange of products, the activities of technology and communication, etc., require us to think and act on a global scale." She also said: "Consumer organizations in every country should join the ranks of the worldwide struggle for the protection of consumer rights." While this struggle continues every day, we choose a day each year where we can be heard from all sides. Gain a voice for consumers and gain the mental motivation to work hard on future missions.

Main content

include:

  1. Provide information to consumers, educate consumers, and improve consumers' awareness and ability to protect their own rights and interests.

  2. Handle consumer complaints and help consumers recover their losses.

  3. Collect consumer opinions and give feedback to enterprises.

  4. Create public opinion, promote the rights of consumers, and form public opinion pressure to improve the status of consumers.

  5. Participate in the formulation of national or government-related consumer laws and policies, and require the government to establish a consumer administrative system to deal with consumer issues.

  6. Establish consumer groups to establish consumer sovereignty.

  7. Strengthen consumer international groups and cooperation.

The International Organization of Consumers Unions (IOCU) is an independent, non-profit, non-political organization. In 1960, it was established by consumer organizations in five countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium and the Netherlands. It was registered in the Netherlands and headquartered in The Hague, the Netherlands. Now it has moved to London, England, and its Asia-Pacific branch is located in Penang, Malaysia. IOCU currently has more than 230 consumer organization members in 115 countries and regions. In September 1987, the China Consumers Association was accepted as a full member of the organization.
